LIVE

This was written by a close friend. We've both had personal issues recently. I've had reason to think about mortality (not mine- I'm fine). He's been a great help. Thank you Laz. You are dessert- "cause everybody loves dessert"

Live.

Life is too short to let just pass by. A wasted year is a wasted 1.4% of your life, given a roughly 74 year lifespan.

You could be at the top of your game today, and gone tomorrow. Look at Alan Kulwicki and you'll see what I mean.

Kilwicki started racing NASCAR in 1985, with nothing but a borrowed pick-up truck and a race-car that he purchased by saving money for the few years prior. He had no sponsor and obviously a tiny budget. One year he raced with NO sponsors, in a plain white car!

Yet, in 1992, he won the championship by the narrowest points-range ever. Kulwicki was a do-it-yourselfer. He owned his team and his car, and he managed everything himself. He was very methodical and scientific in his approach to modifying the car, engines, etc.

He was the last owner/driver to ever race and win in NASCAR. He also ironically, through his empirical management technique, changed the way that everyone else did things from then on, making it virtually impossible for an owner/driver to succeed because of the huge costs of racing in that sport these days.

Four months later, his plane crashed and he perished. (Read more if you want, the 1990's section particularly, here.)

Remember to be stubborn, and reach for your dreams, and don't put off things unnecessarily.

You can be at the top of your game today, and gone tomorrow.

Now for my 2¢:

Queen is probably my favorite rock band of all time. I was crushed at Freddie Mercurys untimely death. I think I've always felt a kinship to him because he was a great Lebanese performer and he kinda looked like my uncle Jim. Today when opening my rss feeds I found this video and lyric on top of the list. Funny how life lines things up from places you least expect them.

Queen wrote and performed this the year before Freddie died. He knew he was terminal yet found the inner drive to sing. "The Show Must Go On" is the last track on their final album - Innuendo. It was released 6 weeks before his death in September 1991.

Empty spaces - what are we living for?
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score..
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are looking for?

Another hero - another mindless crime.
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime.
Hold the line!
Does anybody want to take it anymore?
The Show must go on!
The Show must go on!
Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up may be flaking,
But my smile, still, stays on!

Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance.
Another heartache - another failed romance.
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess i'm learning
I must be warmer now..
I'll soon be turning round the corner now.
Outside the dawn is breaking,
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free!

The Show must go on!
The Show must go on! Yeah!
Ooh! Inside my heart is breaking!
My make-up may be flaking!
But my smile, still, stays on!
Yeah! oh oh oh

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies,
Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die,
I can fly, my friends!

The Show must go on! Yeah!
The Show must go on!
I'll face it with a grin!
I'm never giving in!
On with the show!

I'll top the bill!
I'll overkill!
I have to find the will to carry on!
On with the,
On with the show!

The Show must go on.

SHOW ME HOW TO LIVE

Yes- this is very commercial (which I normally wouldn't like, but I love Chris Cornell's- voice and I really liked Rage Against the Machine- I also like the name AudioSLAVE). They supposedly broke up Valentine's Day this year, but performed at Coachella a couple weeks ago- which I missed for really STUPID reasons- I usually go. Maybe they will stay together?

The scenery in the vid. looks like a cross between my backyard and Burningman Festival -which I usually attend. Have you gone before? Any of you going this year? If so- what is your camp name? Email me this info. I'm deciding if I should go. I LOVE burningman. Lotta "fringe" people there. Someday I would like to attend Las Fallas in Spain. I hear it's like Burningman only better. I love Espana.

VIRTUOUS

Virtuous. That is what I would have called myself. Young and optimistic. It was a different time. We didn't know what a freak Michael Jackson would become. He was gathering the greats and singing "We Are the World". Bob Geldof was gathering greats and asking "Do They Know It's Christmas?". There was a war in the Middle East that I was convinced was the start of WWIII. I had just moved to Fla and was writing songs with my N.A. nazi (not a REAL nazi LMAO) friend who I called "Perkin". Yes- Perkin- you'll be surprised (as I was) that I still have all those songs we wrote. I was in a cover band. Every once in a while we'd throw in a song one or two of us put together. No one was listening, but we thought we were doing great things. More likely they were looking at my panties when I would bend over and lift my too short skirt.

OK- The times weren't SO different. Sir Geldof is still trying to save Africa. I'm in Las Vegas which is very much like South Beach was. I still show off roo much. There is a war that I consider the start of WWIII. The music written then seems fitting now. Life is a refrain- it keeps repeating.

We won the war and we march thru the town
We fought them all now they're all falling down
We fought for truth and that truth set us free
I liberate and you celebrate me

And now the tanks and the guns and the bridges are burning
The victims of war know the tides still are turning

When we were peaceful we prayed to the Lord
Now we're disgraceful at least we're not bored
Come one come all form a line make a stand
Let's build a wall on a line in the sand

And now the tanks and the guns and the planes all are burning
The victims of war know the tides still are turning

We won the war and we march thru the town
We fought them all now they're all falling down
We fought for right against terrible wrong
We fought all night so we could sing this song

….there will be peace in the valley for meeeeee some day……

if anyone falls in love it will be ONE of us

Last night I saw a show. Actually a few friends and I saw a show. There were tickets waiting for us at the Caesars Colloseum box office. This was nice- since I don't believe I should ever have to pay- especially for entertainment. I'm quite entertaining all on my own! Someone mentioned my sense of entitlement yesterday. He wasn't ragging and was absolutely correct- I DO have that sense and rightly so. I just wish that the person who put me on the vip list with Harrahs/Caesars would tell me who he is- I have more offers from them than I can use- 3 different weekends at Caesars in a $750/night suite. One at the Paris. Tkts last night- more to Elton John. Meals, booths and champagne at nightclubs, flights to Reno and Buluxi etc.... I couldn't believe that the tkts were $150 each last night. WTH! Dude- STEP UP.

On a side note- at that show I was up front and next to a gay gang... yes gang- like street gang. It was funny. My friend asked one if he bedazzled his leather all on his own.

The clue is in the title of this entry as to what concert I saw if you are savvy or industrious.

She seemed uncomfortable with a crowd. Turned her back to us a lot- but did come down into the audience for a meet and greet during a set break- I shook her hand. It was clamy. It must be humbling to go from selling out 80k arenas to selling 3k seat venues. She is a rock star though- always will be. I still remember her as a sexy, beautiful, young gypsy/witch who could write. Back in the day-her words could make me cry. Maybe I was high. I KNOW she was. She was a huge part of my childhood and had an influence on who I am now. Most musicians do though. If they make me FEEL- it doesn't matter what style of music I hear. I will make it a part of me- I had fun last night- even though it made me a little sad. She still makes me feel.

This is the second song of her opening set- it's a song about cocaine. I used to think about drugs when I heard this- now I think about other things. Funny how things like my addictions can change....

Rock on--gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon,
And dig your grave

Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I'll pray

Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise--loves--to go down
Lousy lovers--pick their prey
But they never cry out loud

Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now--do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.

Rock on--ancient queen
Follow those who pale
In your shadow

Rulers make bad lovers
You better put your kingdom up for sale

Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now--do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.

NO, it was not Courtney Love. I'll talk to yáll soon.

ADDED MAY 2009

I revisited this post as I was importing to blogspot. She is really an amazing woman. The lead guitarist is her boyfriend. The woman who produces her is one of her back up singers. It seems she learned nothing from the incestuous nature of the Rumours album era. This is the version she did at Caesar's Palace.
