On a side note- at that show I was up front and next to a gay gang... yes gang- like street gang. It was funny. My friend asked one if he bedazzled his leather all on his own.
The clue is in the title of this entry as to what concert I saw if you are savvy or industrious.
She seemed uncomfortable with a crowd. Turned her back to us a lot- but did come down into the audience for a meet and greet during a set break- I shook her hand. It was clamy. It must be humbling to go from selling out 80k arenas to selling 3k seat venues. She is a rock star though- always will be. I still remember her as a sexy, beautiful, young gypsy/witch who could write. Back in the day-her words could make me cry. Maybe I was high. I KNOW she was. She was a huge part of my childhood and had an influence on who I am now. Most musicians do though. If they make me FEEL- it doesn't matter what style of music I hear. I will make it a part of me- I had fun last night- even though it made me a little sad. She still makes me feel.
This is the second song of her opening set- it's a song about cocaine. I used to think about drugs when I heard this- now I think about other things. Funny how things like my addictions can change....
Rock on--gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon,
And dig your grave
Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I'll pray
Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise--loves--to go down
Lousy lovers--pick their prey
But they never cry out loud
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now--do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.
Rock on--ancient queen
Follow those who pale
In your shadow
Rulers make bad lovers
You better put your kingdom up for sale
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now--do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.
NO, it was not Courtney Love. I'll talk to yáll soon.
ADDED MAY 2009
I revisited this post as I was importing to blogspot. She is really an amazing woman. The lead guitarist is her boyfriend. The woman who produces her is one of her back up singers. It seems she learned nothing from the incestuous nature of the Rumours album era. This is the version she did at Caesar's Palace.
